An About-Face.

Refaced and revived!

While going through some old photos, I completely forgot that I refaced the fireplace about three years ago. It's incredible how easy it was to reface, and how it completely updated the room.

When we first bought the house we had an inspection, and upon reviewing the fireplace, I was anxious to learn whether or not the heat-a-lator unit could come out.  The inspector assured me it would.  It was such a pretty room (or had that potential anyway) but the fireplace was an eye sore.  It was the first thing you saw upon entering the house, and it was first on my list of things to change.  I started with finding inspirational photos in magazines and researched "how to's" on the internet. Next, I drafted a scaled drawing and found a carpenter who could bring it to life on a decent budget.

A little MDF, molding, travertine and few coats of paint, we had a good foundation to dress up.  The next phase included adding some grass cloth wallpaper to draw the eye up, as well as  warmth and  texture not to mention, character. Finally the fun part, styling, which is ongoing and ever changing!

How did we get there? MDF molding and travertine.

And voila! Phase I complete.
